HOW TO APPLY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP FOR FIELDWORK PARTICIPATION
Step 1: Find a Project
- Do you already have a project?
- Consult the list of ASOR-affiliated projectsÌýand make sure your project is listed.
- If your project is listed, proceed to Step 2.
- If your project is not listed, check with your project director if it is an ASOR-affiliated project and email programs@asor.orgÌýif your director says the project is ASOR-affiliated.
- If your project is not listed, and your project director says that the project is not ASOR-affiliated, encourage them to apply for ASOR-affiliation—the process is straightforward and brief.
- Consult the list of ASOR-affiliated projectsÌýand make sure your project is listed.
- No project yet?
- Consult the list of ASOR-affiliated projects.ÌýReach out to the director of a project that interests you. Some of the projects listed have specific information for field school students and volunteers on their websites. Email programs@asor.org if you have questions about finding a project.
Step 2: Prepare Your Scholarship Application Materials
Here’s what you will need to fill out the GoogleForm There is one application form for all of the scholarships and the deadline is February 28, 2024.
- Contact Information for yourself:Ìýname, address, email, phone number
- Check off which scholarships you are applying for. Applicants are encouraged to check as many boxes as applicable (some scholarships are only for certain projects or groups).
- Current Education:Ìýcurrent academic stage, institution, and degree/major, if applicable
- Academic Background: academic work including institutions, dates attended, fields of study, degrees attained, any publications
- Project Information: projectÌýname, country, dates of participation, years of involvement on the project, position on the project (volunteer, student, staff member, specialist), director’s name, director’s email)
- Membership Status
- Are you an ASOR member?
- If yes, please provide your membership number.
- If no, check if your school is anÌýASOR Institutional Member.
- If your school is an Institutional Member, list your school and proceed to the next section.
- If neither you or your school are ASOR members, information on joiningÌýASOR as a member can be found here.ÌýMemberships scholarships are available for those with need.
- Are you an ASOR member?
- Essay: In a well-organizedÌý500-750 word essay, please describe your academic background and career goals, the project you will be joining, your motivation for joining this project, how you will contribute to the project, whether your work on this project will contribute to your degree program or thesis/dissertation, and your financial need.
